This paper compares the CDIO 12 Standards and Syllabus with the Japanese Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (JABEE) Criteria. As institutions from different countries join CDIO it is important to understand how CDIO relates to the accreditation standards present in that country. A brief discussion of Japan's education system is followed by a comparison of the English version of the JABEE Critea with the CDIO documents, focusing on comparing the 12 Standards to the full JABEE Criteria and the Syllabus to Criterion 1, similar to ABET's Criterion 3. As expected, CDIO encompasses the JABEE requirements and includes additional aspects that help to create a more well-rounded, industry-ready graduate.
