The urgent issue of Chinese higher Engineering Education is not whether to reform, But how to reform. Making a general survey of the past study of Chinese higher Engineering Education, people usually focused the theoretical research on the concept and the framework of CDIO etc., but they neglected the key element-the the driving force of reform -in the reformation of engineering education, that is, how to promote CDIO reformation successfully in an engineering colleges? Using the CDIO reform in Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology as a representative case, the purpose of this paper is to show how the theory of CDIO can be effectively applied to practice in different level of engineering college. We mainly talk about the following questions: (1) how can the idea of CDIO successfully spread in the college;(2) how to carry out project-based learning into practice under guidance of CDIO Theory;(3) how to promote the course construction under guidance of CDIO Theory;(4) the strategic choice to promote the reform ;(5) the driving force of the reform; and on this basis, we talk about (6) the key characteristics of this successful reformation. What makes this study standing out is it provides a practical example of CDIO reform from developing countries and summarizes a path model of the CDIO reform in Chinese Local Colleges.
